There are a number of issues impacting construction materials, including insulation, that contractors should be aware of as new projects are tendered. Metal prices have gone up 15% so far in 2021 with more increases to come, steel has increased which impacts all fastening devices, chemicals used to produce foam insulations have gone up so much that polyisocyanurate increased their price by 10% on Jan 1, 2021, another 10% in April and have cautioned that there will be another increase in 2021.

On the fibreglass side, we have seen a 5% increase in January and now this 8% for May. Every industry is facing the same challenges: raw material costs are escalating at alarming rates, transportation rates (both domestic and overseas) have, in some cases more than doubled (that’s if you can get a carrier when you need one), covid outbreaks in manufacturing plants have impacted productivity, energy costs are climbing, etc.

OSHA reminds employers that the agency will begin collecting calendar year 2020 Form 300A data on Jan. 2, 2021. Employers must submit the form electronically by Mar. 2, 2021. Electronic submissions are required by establishments with 250 or more employees currently required to keep OSHA injury and illness records, and establishments with 20-249 employees classified in specific industries. Visit the Injury Tracking Application Electronic Submission of Injury and Illness Records to OSHA for more information and a link to the Injury Tracking Application.

]]> Mon, 6 Apr 2020 16:54:12 GMT Donation to Direct Relief https://esica.org/news/news.asp?id=433027 https://esica.org/news/news.asp?id=433027 ESICA has made a donation of $1,000 to Direct Relief in support of their disaster relief efforts. Each year, ESICA and CSIA host a joint conference, in September, to bring together members from both organizations to network and discuss important industry topics. The 2017 Conference was scheduled to take place in Houston, Texas at the beginning of September. Unfortunately, due to the disaster caused by Hurricane Harvey, the conference was cancelled.

 

Although the conference did not take place, we knew that we needed to help. After much research, we came across Direct Relief and were extremely impressed by all the organization has done and continues to do for those who need support during such trying times.

 

Direct Relief was rated #1 by Charity Navigator, American’s largest evaluator of charities, and was given a 4-star rating.  The charity uses 99.4% of the funds they receive toward programs and services.

 

Direct Relief was the highest-rated California-based charity in Forbes Magazine’s annual ranking of the 100 largest U.S. charities. They earned a perfect score of 100 percent in fundraising efficiency (percent of private donations remaining after fundraising expenses) and a 99 percent rating for its charitable commitment (charitable services as a percent of total expenses).
